Samhain Ritual
The 2007 CUUPS Samhain ritual was an intimate affair of about a dozen participants. We entered the circle silently and called the elements with instruments rather than voice to mark the solemnity of the occasion. The ancestor altar was filled with fruit, bread, and nuts as an offering to those who came before. The ritual included a sharing of our heritage in order to better understand those in the circle and bring us closer and a long meditation to hear the wisdom of our ancestors and loved ones who had left us the year before. We raised energy for those who do not have enough food and shelter to survive the long winter on their own, and for those who give of their hearts and energy to care for them. CUUPS will celebrate the Yule ritual on December 15th, and volunteers are very welcome. Please e-mail volunteers@seattlecuups.org if you would like to help at the next ritual.
Yule Ritual
There were only about half a dozen of us at the Yule ritual, probably because the person who did a lot of our publicity had quit suddenly in November, and no one else picked up the slack. Even so, the Yule feast was delicious, with smoked turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, yams and the works. The numinous beings make their appearances as scheduled, and indeed brought gifts. The ritual did indeed remind us of the truth of this time of year, as proclaimed in our chant:
- Light is returning
- Even though it is the darkest hour
- No one can hold back the dawn.
